American Idols gives back

If you have a TV program which attracts 40 million audience per week on an average, what do you do? Just sit and enjoy…right? Well, Nigel Lythgoe doesn't think so and so he decided to give back to the society which has given him so much. This idea of doing something for the fellow human beings resulted in the formation of Idol Gives Back Foundation.

Idol Gives Back Foundation is a not-for-profit organization to raise money and awareness for children and families living in poverty and at risk in the U.S. and abroad. Idol Gives Back Foundation is harnessing American Idol's ability to capture America’s hearts and the power of entertainment to benefit some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world.

Last year the event raised $76 million and this year’s event, beginning at a special 7:30 PM start time on April 9th, will be bigger and more ambitious than ever. The likes of Robin Williams, Celine Dion and Brad Pitt along with many others will grace the occasion. During the show, viewers will be able to make donations via toll-free lines and the Internet. Idol Gives Back Foundation charitable causes are also generously supported by corporate partners.
